Pratham’s Program

There are an estimated 140 million children ranging from ages 6 to 14, in primary schools. Of this group, 30 million cannot read, 40 million can only recognize a few alphabets, 40 million are capable of reading only a few words, and another 30 million are capable of reading paragraphs. It is projected that 55 million children will not even be able to complete four years of school. Sadly, this will ultimately add to the illiterate population in India.It is important to be cognizant of these statistics if we are to fulfill Pratham’s mission of “…every child in school….and learning well…“.
